Ant Farm Mazes

Now that it's Spring, it seems that ants are everywhere! My daughters have become very fascinated with ants and have even requested an ant farm. This gave me the idea of creating a set of ant farm themed mazes for preschoolers. Help the ants make their way through each maze and reach their food.

My daughters have become very fascinated with ants and have even requested an ant farm Ant Farm Mazes

This set of FREE Ant Farm mazes includes 5 sheets, with 10 mazes in total. They are perfect for preschoolers to practice pre-writing and fine motor skills.

I recommend that you laminate the sheets, cut the mazes out and then give children dry-erase markers to solve the mazes.

  • My Dino Color Book
  • Color matching mats
  • Various worksheets

Dinosaur Number Puzzles 1-10

Print and cut out each card. Cut across the dotted lines to form the puzzles. Great for counting, number recognition and one-to-one correspondence.

My Dino Color Book

In this activity children will learn to read a few sight words as well as color words and the word dinosaur. It's a super simple read with each page representing a different color. Kids can also color each dinosaur. Print out and cut out each page, then staple the book together.

Dinosaur Color Matching Mats

This activity is a fun way to practice colors and sorting. It also helps with one to one correspondence as each box has a spot for each block. Just print out the mats and cut around the dotted lines to separate the color blocks.

Dinosaur Worksheets

Several work pages are also included to practice different skills such as shapes and writing practice. With the shadow match cards, the kids will be matching shadows to images. Just cut out the cards and get to matching. With the graphing page, the children will be learning how graph. There are also a few quiet time activities like a do a dot letter D. There are a few other activities in the pack, such as a find a color matching cards game, letter Dd sorting page, and a dino lacing card.

Dinosaur Puzzles

Puzzles are our favorite around here. I added a few different types of puzzles to this set. There is a count to 10 sequence puzzle, head to full body match puzzle, and cut the dino in half matching puzzles. Just print an cut around the dark lines and dotted lines. I would suggest lamination because puzzles tend to get manipulated a good bit and laminating them will help them last longer.

Why not add to this pack with a Dino Stomp free printable board game and a fun arts and crafts project Paper Mache Dinosaur piggy bank.

Preschool Fun for Groundhog Day

The further we get into winter, the deeper I long for spring. So, I am one of those crazy people who pays attention to Punxsutawney Phil. I'm always hoping he won't see his shadow so we'll see an early spring.

I am one of those crazy people who pays attention to Punxsutawney Phil Preschool Fun for Groundhog Day

Preschool Fun for Groundhog Day

These no-prep activities are perfect for your homeschool preschool activities. All you need to do is print the pages out. Then, your preschoolers are ready for some groundhog themed activities.

How to Use the Pages

Graphing FunLittle ones will cut out the groundhog images on the bottom of the graphing page. Then, they'll glue them in the correct column on the graph. Next, count the groundhogs in each column, and write the number on the lines.

Letter Identification: This activity features the letter Gg for groundhog. Using crayons or dot markers, little ones will search for and color the box containing "G" and "g".

Shadow Matching: One big aspect of Groundhog Day is whether or not Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not. This activity features several groundhogs and their shadows. Preschoolers will draw a line matching each groundhog with his shadow.

Pencil Control: Each of the three pencil control activities on this page is designed to help preschoolers work on pencil control and fine motor skills. They will trace a curvy line with a pencil. This is a great pre-writing or beginner handwriting activity.

One more tip:

You could laminate the pencil control, letter identification, and shadow matching pages. If your preschoolers use a dry erase marker to complete these activity pages, they can be wiped clean and used again and again.

Fall Prewriting Activity with Squirrels & Acorns

Do you see a lot of squirrels during Autumn/Fall? They work extra hard during this time - gathering up enough food to keep them well fed throughout Winter when food is scarce. Help these squirrels to their acorns and practice pre-writing skills too!

Pin Me!
Do you see a lot of squirrels during Autumn Fall Prewriting Activity with Squirrels & Acorns

Pre-writing practice is important for toddlers and preschoolers and helps develop fine motor skills needed for writing- correct pencil grip, pressure control, control over movement and direction etc.

"In short, pre-writing skills are the lines and strokes kids need to master and know BEFORE learning how to print the alphabet."- Growing Hands-on Kids

There are a variety of ways to practice these skills. One should not only use paper-based activities but hands-on activities like drawing lines in a salt/sand tray, too. (See this example.) Use this fun printable worksheet to give opportunity for pre-writing practice. (If you are able, place sand in a tray with acorns for extra sensory learning and copy the lines of the cards in the sand.)

Simply print the sheet (there are a color version and a black & white version). Then laminate it to make it reusable. Cut out in strips and provide a dry-erase/whiteboard marker.

Ask the child to help the squirrel to the acorn by following the line. This involves those skills needed for writing and the directional awareness to write from left to right.

There are a variety of lines on this worksheet. Depending on the age of the child, choose which ones he/she will master. Start off with the straight horizontal lines, then zig-zag and only then the squiggly lines (most difficult). The aim is to follow the lines without lifting the pen, practicing writing fluency. But, keep the age of the child in mind at all times.

This is a cute printable worksheet that your young child/ren can work on those pre-writing skills during Fall! Pair it with a sensory tray as suggested above and you have a multi-sensory activity to practice pre-writing.
