Apple Color Sorting Mats for Toddlers & Preschoolers

Autumn is just around the corner. With the arrival of autumn, we look forward to cooler temperatures, back to school, and all things apple. This apple-sorting activity will be a great addition to all your apple studies this fall. And, it's perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.

Apple Color Sorting Mats

This set of apple-themed color sorting mats is a great addition to your Fall preschool lessons. Tots and preschoolers will work on this activity independently or as a group.

There is very little prep-work involved in setting this activity up.

Using the Color Sorting Mats

Print out each of three sorting mats and the apple cards. Then, laminate them for durability. This allows kids to do this activity over and over again. Set out the three sorting mats. Mix up the apple cards.

To use these activity pages, have your child identify the color designated on each of the three mats. Then, have your child sort the apple cards onto the correct mat.

Variations

COUNT THE APPLES: After all of the apples have been sorted correctly, you could have your preschoolers count the number of apples on each mat. I purposely made each set a different number.

PATTERNS: You could also ask your preschoolers to use the apple cards to create patterns. Start with AB and ABC patterns. Then, graduate to ABA, AAB, or ABB patterns.

ROLL AND COUNT: Have your preschooler roll a dice and count out the same number of apples.
