To prepare:
Print as many sets as you need for the number of students in your class. If you are using these in a center, it’s a great idea if you have an extra set just in case you want another group to get started on the cards. There are 12 CVC puzzle cards (2 or 3 sets for each of the vowels). There are also optional B&W cards.

Earth Day CVC Word Building

This free printable earth day activity comes with colourful CVC recycling bin cards. Students will practice CVC building skills, word reading, and letter sounds as they identify each letter needed for the picture found on the ‘recycling bin’ and to form the word. I would begin by pointing to the CVC picture and letting the students have a go at identifying it before beginning to look for the letter sounds.

After you’ve printed, laminated and cut the cards as well at the letter pieces. Have the students work on one card at a time and have the letter pieces shown clearly on the table as they choose the letters to build their CVC words. Kids love and usually respond really well to themed literacy activities and this one has a great earth day recycling theme. If kids have just started to learn about earth day and recycling, this is a great activity to incorporate in your literacy centers. I use these cards with my ESL students too. To help simplify this activity further with my ELLs, I usually write the CVC words on a whiteboard to give them a guide as they look for the letter sounds to build their words.

Earth Day Sorting Activity

This FREE printable activity is a great way for kids to learn and talk about some of the things that make the Earth "happy" and "sad". You can use it as a sorting activity or even display it on a bulletin board and have a discussion about it.

There are 6 cards that show children how to take care of our planet through conservation, recycling, cleaning, reusing and planting. There is another set of 6 cards that introduces children to air, water and land pollution.

To prepare:
Print as many sets as you need for the number of students in your class. If you are using these in a center, it’s a great idea if you have an extra set just in case you want another group to get started on the cards. There are 32 ‘koala cards’ and 36 matching ‘eucalyptus leaf’ cards.

Preschool Shapes & Alphabet Matching Activity Set

This free printable koala themed activity comes with colorful ‘eucalyptus’ letter and shape cards to encourage kids to ‘feed the koalas’ by matching their upper and lowercase letters and shapes. Preschool students will practice alphabet upper and lowercase matching skills, identifying letters, identifying shapes, and reading shape words. I would guide the kids by showing them a guide on identifying the letter or word shown on the koala and then find the matching letter or shape picture.

After you’ve printed, laminated and cut the cards. The kids can either work on each ‘koala card’ at a time (I find ELLs love this simplicity) or you could print 6 on 1 page and use it as a mat. This also saves you prep time. Kids love and usually respond really well to themed literacy activities and this one has a great Australian theme. I use these cards with my ESL students too. To help simplify this activity further with my ELLs, I usually write the shape word and draw the corresponding shape next to it on the whiteboard.

CVC Missing Vowel Cards

Kids love using dry erase markers! Have them practice listening to short vowel sounds with these fun and simple dry erase CVC Missing Vowel Cards. Beginning and ending sounds are usually identified before the middle vowel sounds so make sure that your kiddos are ready to start identifying middle vowel sounds.

To prepare:
Print as many cards as you will need for your group of students. You can print one set and then split the cards so that each group in class can work on a set of CVC vowel sounds such as ‘a’ and ‘o’. Laminate the cards and then cut them up. Prepare a basket to place them in along with some dry erase markers and pegs.

CVC Missing Vowel Cards – Dry Erase Cards

To begin, learners will take an activity CVC strip and name the picture on the card. They will then decide what the missing vowel sound is. You can also provide some hands-on manipulatives like letter tiles or letter magnets. They will make this resource a great hands-on activity! Have the learners write the missing vowel on each strip and then either use a peg to clip the missing vowel sound or color in the box.

There are three versions of this activity, one with missing vowels and clip boxes, one with missing vowels but with tracing letters and clip boxes, and one with no clip boxes. There are also black and white versions to save on color printing (you can also print two pages on one sheet and make it a worksheet activity.

My ESL / ELL students love working on these cards (I give them the version of the cards with the guided tracing letters). I hope your learners LOVE these cards!
