Spanish is an important second language to learn in the U.S. as there are over 38 million speakers and quickly growing. There are more Spanish speakers in the United States than there are speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian and Native American languages combined. Wow! And I know first-hand that more and more employers are hiring bilingual employees who can communicate with Spanish-speaking clients.

How to Use 3-Part Cards:

These are called 3-Part cards because one card is the control card, which has a picture and word, while the other cards are just the picture and just the word. Print 2 copies of each card, one copy is for cutting out the control cards, while the other copy is for cutting out the picture and word cards. Laminate or glue to cardstock for durability.

For Non-Readers

Here are some ways to use the cards for toddlers & non-readers:

1. Print one copy of the cards - the control card. Lay down one card at a time and say in a clear voice what it is called. You can say it in both English and Spanish, or just Spanish, whatever you choose.

2. Picture Matching - Print a second copy and cut out the picture cards. Lay down the control cards and have the child match the picture cards to the control cards.

3. Sight Word Matching - Cut out the label cards and have the child match the labels to the control cards by sight.

3. Object Matching - If you have objects such as plastic animals, toy vehicles or different colored objects to match the pictures, let the child match the objects to the pictures.

4. Memory Game - Print 2 copies of each picture, lay them face down and play a classic memory game.

For Readers

1. Matching Word to Picture - Lay down the picture cards without labels and have the child match the labels to the picture. The child can check their work by looking at the control cards.

2. Matching Picture to Word - Lay down just the label cards without pictures and have the child match the picture to the word. The child can check their work by looking at the control cards.

Kitchen Tools Vocabulary & Sorting Cards

Brought to you by Kristin from smartEpartE, this is a free printable set of kitchen tools vocabulary cards for matching and sorting!

If you asked me what my son's favorite TV show is, I would probably say America's Test Kitchen! It makes sense that the son of a bread baker and a former nutrition major would love food as well.

About this time last year I was proud to make a free bread cutting printable pack for Totschooling that we used in our own week of bread preschool trays! Another favorite food-based theme we had in our homeschool was our healthy foods preschool trays. And my simple idea for DIY play food recipe cards remains popular!

This time, though, we wanted to take a closer look at some of those things that help us cook food, chop food, eat food and more: Kitchen Tools! So today we present a free printable set of kitchen tools vocabulary cards, plus a few quick pages to print for a sorting activity utilizing the cards.

We used these kitchen tools vocabulary cards in a few different ways, and we hope you do too!

Print out the cards, preferably in color, on paper of your choosing. We trimmed them down but chose not to laminate them.

1) The most natural way to learn with these kitchen tools vocabulary cards would be as Montessori-three part cards. Match the image and name to the card with both!

2) The last three pages of the free kitchen tools vocabulary cards printable are for sorting items based on whether they are used for cutting, cooking, or eating food. Use any of the cards for sorting, with the word only of course being the most challenging!

(I enjoyed this activity because of the debate it caused. Why isn't there a page that says "holding food?" Isn't that where a cutting board should go? So I went ahead and wrote "and Holding" on the Cooking page, though my intent was for the cutting board to go on the Cutting page.)

3) Our favorite way to use these cards, though, was to match them up with real tools from the kitchen! Ahead of time I collected the tools (from our kitchen and his!) all in a basket and he matched up the tools and cards on the floor. Another way would be to have the child find the matching tools themselves in the kitchen!

I should also mention there are some cards for sharp items like knives and a grater. Please use your discretion to what is appropriate for you and your child.

We hope you find more ways than one to use these kitchen tools vocabulary cards!

Hi! I am Kristin and I blog over at smartEpartE.com. When our son, E was 2 I jokingly called him a "smarty party," hence the name of the blog! It served as inspiration to keep up with weekly tot school and preschool themes, and perhaps, share some ideas with others! Thank you for visiting over at smartEpartE.com or on Pinterest!

World Landmarks 3-Part Cards and Matching with Safari Toob

Learning about famous world landmarks is a fun geography and social studies lesson for kids of all ages. It is never too early to start - even preschoolers can learn landmarks. To make it especially fun, we use Safari Ltd TOOB figurines and match them to the picture cards. Affiliate links provided for your convenience.

Learning about famous world landmarks is a fun geography and social studies lesson for kid World Landmarks 3-Part Cards and Matching with Safari Toob

For this activity we used two sets of Safari Ltd TOOB - Around the World (set of 10) and World Landmarks (set of 7).

We printed the sheets of 3-Part Cards (17 in total) but didn't cut the cards out. My daughter matched the object to the picture by placing each one directly on top of the pictures.

If you don't have the TOOB sets you can still use the 3-Part cards.

How to Use 3-Part Cards

Print out 2 copies of each sheet. Cut out the cards from one copy, keeping the name on each card. The second copy gets cut where the images and names are separate. Now you have 3 cards for each landmark:

1 - the control cards which have the image and name
2 - image cards
3 - name cards

Depending on your child's age and skill level, they can match the images to the control card, or the names, or both.
